Thursday morning my alarm went off at 3:00am...
My bike was already packed, and had been packed for over a week..  I actually packed and repacked 3 times, to make sure I had everything I needed and packed it in the most compact method.  A new sleepingbag which compresses smalled than my old one helped considerably.  I rolled out of bed showered and kissed the wife goodbye...  This would be my first extended trip away from her in quite some time.  I chose to take the interstate to our meeting point up in North Arkansas. I was afraid that riding through back roads at 4:00am might not be wise with the deer population scurrying about.

Top of the Rockies 2007

Five days of hard riding can really change a guys perspective on life.
Seems like only yesterday, but it was actually about 6 months ago when I mentioned to an internet aquaintence that we ought to pack up our BMW’s and ride to CO. for the Top of the Rockies Rally.  Since I had not met the fellow, and since CO. is a long way away, I figured it was a safe suggestion...
A month later he and his wife came from IL. for a visit, So we could get to know each other, and test our compatibility, A very important factor when traveling far from home on a motorcycle.  After spending a few hours together it became quite apparent that we would begin planning a ride together...
Dan turned out to be the perfect traveling companion...  Not so much because he and I are alike.... But moreso because we are different, and he was willing to be flexible, which in turn made me aware of my need to be flexible for him as well.  I hope I can do this ride report justice, as it was probably the best ride I have done in quite some time.
